Packed Day

We had a list and really we checked a bunch of boxes. Our hotel is right next to the Modern Art Museum. Once again their signs suck. We sat outside for about 15 minutes waiting for it to open. We knew we were on the backside of the museum, but they unlocked the doors, so we thought, no problem will go in this door. Well we had to jump the gate, along with another couple to get in. This is a crazy place, they really don’t seem to want tourists here.

The museum left us feeling creatively challenged by their standards. If a pillow is in public, what kind of dreams would you have? If you played a violin till the ice melted on your feet would that be a long enough performance? Enough!

Next up was the Coast Guard tour. The Eagle ship was taken from Germany after WWII. It was built in 1936. There were 160 new cadettes coming onto the ship today. Sixty permanent crew members are on the ship to train those cadettes. We had an added connection with this ship, our brother-in-law Ron, served on this ship in 1990.

Stockholm is the center for the Nobel Prize. Alfred Nobel was from Stockholm and was born in 1833. He was the inventor of dynamite and was fluent in five languages. The awards given are in several categories and different groups within Sweden vote for the winner by a 51% majority or the award isn’t given. Nobel Laureates can nominate individuals. Albert Einstein nominated eleven and all eleven won. The winners all have their bios on cards that travel like laundry on a belt around the ceiling. It would take 9 hours for the winners to complete one cycle.

The Royal Palace is closed until the end of June, so we decided to go to the Drottningholm Palace. It is the home of the Swedish royal family since 1981. It is about 45 minutes outside of town by tram.

This evening we ate at Sturehof. It is a seafood place and not a touristy place. I think we were the only out of towners there. Good wine, and good seafood.
