Visby is such a picturesque city of only about 24,000 folks. From Vikings, to pirates, to Danish for 300 years and finally in 1645 to Sweden. Many churches were burned out by the Danish when they knew the Swedish were taking over. The German church was the only one that we saw in the old town that was still intact. It originally was catholic, but now is considered protestant.

The botanical gardens had so many different types of trees and plants. Including an over 100 year old Ginkgo tree.

Many cruise ships come into Visby, approximately 1 million visitors during the summer from these ships. The weather is in the mid 70s, the best time of the year to visit.

Visby had pottery shops, one glass blowing shop and very nice dress shops. There are lots of restaurants and wine bars in the old town.
