Vienna, Austria

Second time around for Vienna, but it had been awhile, so we took an overview walk this morning. It seemed much more crowded this time. Part of it was because it was a holiday weekend for the locals and there were like eight Viking boats here at the same time.

This afternoon we took another bike adventure down the Donau or the Danube. This time we had e-bikes. Starting out all was well, until my bike’s electric system shut down. Well when everyone else is going 24 km per hour with their e-bike and I’m having to try to go that fast on a heavy bike with my own energy, well I just pulled over. The guide that was with us figured out how to fix the battery and then all was well.

We went about 10 miles and then stopped for a drink. This was beyond the Danube tributary and we took a ferry across the lake to an island and started back. We stopped at the new town which is trying a new city concept. There are two levels, the top level only allows bikes and pedestrians. The bottom level allows cars.  Seems like a good idea. The small homes that you see along the Danube can have a value of around $650,000 euro. Most are passed down through the family and never sold.
