Shopping & the Cathedral

After the full day yesterday, we slept in and then found a really good bakery for breakfast.

Since Berlin is a city of roughly 3.5 million it has plenty of shopping. We hit a few of our favorites this morning, Uniqlo, All Birds and the Ampelmann Shop.

What is an Amplemännchen? On October 13, 1961, traffic psychologist Karl Peglau submitted his suggestions for new traffic light symbols in Berlin, capital of the GDR. The light was loved and many wanted them kept, including Markus Heckhausen, who contacted Mr. Peglau with a proposition. He wanted to write a book about the Ampelmännchen (Ampel Light Man). He also saved the lights and they put many back up that had been taken down. Then he started to brand and sell items relating to the character. Today there are five stores that sell all kinds of stuff with the little traffic light man at the center of attention.

Difference between the east and west.
Isn’t he the cutest!

We flew from Berlin to Frankfurt this evening. The last stop before heading home.
