“The world is a book and those who don’t travel only read one page.”

Augustine of Hippo

Northern Cotswold

A cot is a place where the shepherds tend to their sheep and a wold is a high place. So…Cotswolds.

Sundial on the doorway.

This church is the oldest church in this area and shows remnants of doomsday art for those in that time that did not understand Latin.

Just down the narrow road a bit was this store/nursery/grocery called Daylesford Organic. A Martha Stewart type place.

Funny!
Next to Lucy’s Tearoom was Tara’s Antiques
Doors of Durin in the Lord of the Rings
St. Edward’s Church

Below is the alley used to move sheep to  market. The sheep industry is the biggest industry and has been for centuries. The wool here is not as good as the wool in New Zealand. Most of the wool is used for insulation for building.

Butcher, not many stand alone shops left.
Started as a monestary, then an inn.

Below is a brewery that brews for 15 local pubs, and those pubs only can sell Donnington beer. They have been in this business for 159 years. This mill has been in place since 1300.

Big fish!
You can get one of their beers anytime.

The town of Snowhills is like many others, it has a church and a pub.

Where is shepherds sat in the church and this is worn because of the dog’s leash.
There are some thatch roofs, not the norm. They are terribly expensive and the owner must replace with a thatched roof.
First electric street light.
Stanway House, owned by a crazy family the Earls of Wemyss and March.
In the Earl’s backyard is a fountain that is totally gravity powered and shoots up 300 feet. It is the tallest fountain of that kind in the world.
Near a horse farm.

After our full day with our wonderful driver Ian, we walked two towns away to Bourton-on-the-Water. It was a 45 minute walk each way, but with the scenery it went fast.

Little known fact. The hedges keep the critters and bugs out of the crops. Every year they are cut down  and then grow back.
