Moving to the Seine Port

Close to our hotel is the Jewish Quarter Marias, and this morning we wandered through the area on our way to Notre Dame.

This 4th arrondissment district has been home to Jews on and off since the thirteenth century. Today, though gentrification has made this one of the city’s most fashionable quarters, it is still heavily Jewish. There are many perfume stores and clothing stores.  The streets off rue des Rosiers, have Jewish restaurants and bookshops, along with synagogues and shtiebels (small prayer rooms).

Trekking on from there to Notre Dame. The Catholic cathedral was originally completed in 1345, but in April of 2019 a fire damaged most of the cathedral.

It only took until December of 2024 to restore the cathedral to its former glory.
