Khatarat Canals
Looking like giant prairie dog mounds, the Khatarat canals are a way to move water with gravity to arid areas of Morocco. The mounds are placed every 10 – 50 meters apart and are used to clean out the canal and for ventilation. These particular canals were dry, due to the drought. They had made stairs down to let tourists see what they were like underground.
Tinghir Oasis
This oasis was very organized and had healthy plants growing in their “Farmville” type fields.
Todra Gorge
Very close to the Tinghir Oasis is a beautiful gorge. It looks similar to Zion with its huge rock formations.
The towns that we went through today had more modern homes. Many just built and they were continuing to build everywhere. We went past another reservoir and came close to the Ouarzazate Solar Power Station. The world’s largest concentrated solar power (CSP) plant, when completed it will generate 580 MW.
